Hiking Trails in South Africa

Hiking is perhaps one of the best ways to take in South Africa’s vast tracts of beautiful and diverse scenery. The country boasts many scenic trails, giving visitors the opportunity to get close to the natural environment. Both guided and self-guided trails are available. The Self-guided trails are well marked and ideal for groups of friends and family. On the longer trails sleeping huts are available for overnight stays, be sure to take enough water, food and bedding. Guided trails in nature reserves can last for a few days and are easier as they are usually led by a trained and experienced game ranger. Guided tours are ideal for those wanting to know more about the ecology, animals and plants. Hiking is generally inexpensive and South Africa has over 300 trails to choose from.
