Aliwal North

 
 


Aliwal North is an historical town on the N6 that has well-preserved old buildings and historical places situated on the south of the Orange River . It was founded in 1849 and is well-known for it’s hot mineral springs that attracted people who suffered from rheumatism, arthritis, lambago and neuralgia. Water from the springs is piped into two large outdoor swimming pools and two childrens swimming pools there is also a treatment block that has amenities for disabled people. Aliwal North is also successful farming community whose main products are wool, maize, wheat, beef and dairy.
