Fort Beaufort

 
 


Fort Beaufort is situated on the banks of the Kat River and established as a military stronghold in 1823. The town is named after the Duke of Beaufort, the father of Lord Charles Somserset, govenor of the Cape. Fort Beaufort is the centre of a cirtrus rich farming area and 45km from the Doubledrift Nature Reserve (part of the Great Fish River Reserve Complex).
