King William's Town

 
 


King William’s Town was named in honour of the British king William IV and founded in 1835. King William’s Town was the headquaters for eight regiments of troops from 1850 to 1853 and remained a British garrison headquaters until 1914. King William’s Town has the second largest mamal collection in Africa.

Amathole Museum (The Kaffarian)
The sixth oldest museum in South Africa feautures German settler history, Xhosa ethnography, anthropology and an exhibition of mammals and on a South African animal legend - Huberta the Hippo.
