Queenstown

An historical town on the N6 was founded in 1853 and named in honour of Queen Victoria that was built on the banks of the Komani River between the Katberg and Stormberg Mountains. It has an unusual town centre laid out around a hexagon with a fountain and garden. This hexagonal centre was built to defend early inhabitants from hostile tribes in the vacinity. The design allowed the defenders to direct fire down the six radiating thoroughfares. Jazz was first developed in Queenstown and was known as “Little Jazz Town” in the 1920’s.
