Addo

Addo is a small town surrounded by orange orchids and game reserves located in the Sundays River Valley. The Sundays River Valley was a dry, arid and inhospitable region to would be settlers and consequently became the Cape Elephant’s safe haven. Sir Percy Fitzpatrick, author of “Jock of the Bushveld” and South Africa’s statesman after the First World War encouraged British officers to plant citrus trees in the region. The state of the land and the elephants in the region resulted in the 1930’s Darlington Dam irrigation scheme and the Addo Elephant Park.
