Sandton lies on the northern side of the Greater Johannesburg Metropolitan Area. The town is named after the combination of two suburbs, Sandown and Bryanston, both of which are named after places in the United Kingdom. Sandton’s main attraction is perhaps Sandton City, a remarkable shopping complex, which together with Nelson Mandela Square boasts 144,000m2 shopping area making it the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. The Sandton area is one of the wealthiest in South Africa.
