Underberg

Underberg is a very well watered stock farming region that offers excellent trout fishing and provides access to southern Drakensberg’s, forests, parks and nature reserves. Situated on the Mzimkhulu River, 30km from the Drakensberg, Underberg started out as a store that served the farmers in the area in 1886. Oak trees were planted along the road between Underberg and Himeville to improve relations between the two towns. Rivalry broke out between the two towns as a result of the of Himeville being established as the seat of the magistracy of the district, and Underberg being chosen as the terminus of the branch railway from Donnybrook to serve the area.
