Verulam

A well organised party of 400 Methodists from Britain brought with them seeds and agricultural implements and named their village after their patron, the Earl of Verulam. The settlers were allocated land in the valley of the Mdloti River. Today the town is mainly inhabited by Indians and the small farms have been absorbed into large cane fields that run from horizon to horizon. Graceful homesteads, cemeteries and gardens remain.
