A prospector previously known as Adolph Erasmus found tin on the Waterberg in 1910 and miners streamed into the district. The canteens, cabarets artists and trading stores which sprang up on the banks of the Naboomspruit were the start of the present town Mookgophom, previously known as Naboomspruit. Several hot springs which surface around the Waterberg have been developed into health resorts which attract many holiday makers. Attractions and Things To Do in Mookgophom Fishing Anglers will enjoy the Frikkie Geyser Dam and the Doorndraaidam Nature Reserve Malatipark One can visit the Malatipark to view their rare rhinoceroses. Hunting There are a number of private game ranches which provide excellent opportunities for trophy hunting, both game and bird. Nylsvley Nature Reserve Home to an incredible 420 recorded bird species, making it a bird watchers. A group camp accommodates 30 persons at a time and a lecture hall is ideal for conferences. It is located only 15 kilometres out of town Zebediela It is the biggest citrus estate in the world. Zebediela is Named after a Ndebele chief. Anglo Boer War memorial There is an Anglo Boer War memorial close to Boekenhout and the Nylsvley Nature Reserve. It marks the site of a train derailment where many Boers died and were buried. |
