Vaalwater is a small one-street town on the Mokolo River, and lies at
the southern edge of the Waterberg. It is surrounded by game farms and
nature reserves and is a fabulous ecotourism destination. It is also
a popular stop off point for those travelling to Botswana.
Attractions and Things To Do in Vaalwater Rhino Museum Is the worlds only dedicated Rhino Museum, and is located at the Melkrivier School complex 4 x 4 Trails Available at various game reserves in the area. Horse Riding The Waterberg Museum Home to truly fascinating information on the cultural history of the area, from the first hominids dating back a million years ago, to the people of the late stone age. It is located at the Melkrivier School complex San Rock Artwork The area boasts many fascinating rock paintings and geological sites to visit. Mookgophom (formerly known as Naboomspruit) A prospector previously known as Adolph Erasmus found tin on the Waterberg in 1910 and miners streamed into the district. The canteens, cabarets artists and trading stores which sprang up on the banks of the Naboomspruit were the start of the present town Mookgophom, previously known as Naboomspruit. Several hot springs which surface around the Waterberg have been developed into health resorts which attract many holiday makers. |
