Haernertsburg is a beautiful district filled with natural beauty. It is home to a wealth of birdlife and interesting attractions. Attractions and Things To Do in Haenertsburg Arboretum situated in the Market Square containing over 400 species of trees from all over the world. Laid out in five rings, symbolic of the Olympic logo, the circles were planted with the trees and shrubs from the five continents. Ebenezer Dam This very large dam provides interesting fishing for bass, kurper and trout. There are several boat clubs and various raft cruises. Public picnic area and a campsite. Hiking: Louis Changuion Trail Easy 10km hike through hills surrounding Haenertsburg village - indigenous bush, pine forests, grasslands, streams and wonderful views. Take your own water and rubbish bag. Good bird viewing and indigenous plant varieties. Lesodi Trail An easy trail of 1 - 2 hours on the edge of the Magoebaskloof through indigenous bush with stunning views of the Lowveld Wolkberg Wilderness area Wonderful views and unspoilt grasslands with some indigenous bush. Excellent walking area. Permits are needed to visit this area. Woodbush and Debegeni Waterfall The Woodbush is a very beautiful indigenous forest stretching from the top of Magoebaskloof Pass down to the Lowveld. There are several walking trails of several days eg Dokolewa. One can also take one of the dirt roads through the forest (not recommended in rainy weather). Not to be missed is the Debegeni Waterfall. A spectacular sight! There is a picnic site at the Waterfall and rock pools for that quick dip. (Bilharzia free) Cheerio Gardens Set in a narrow valley, with streams and dams, the extensive gardens are beautifully laid out with thousands of azaleas and many acers and flowering cherries. The Gardens are especially beautiful in Spring and in Autumn. Numerous walks and a tea garden Waterfront Hideaway Pottery Set in spectacular gardens on the edge of the Ebenezer and Stanford Dams. Joan Provis produces her own beautiful, handpainted tiles depicting local flowers and birds. Very pleasant teagarden with delectable waffles a speciality. Wegraakbosch Dairy This quaint dairy produces various delicious alp cheeses and natural yoghurts. Tours daily and cheese platters with wine available. Walks and picnic spots on the farm. Invader Furniture Workshop Small farm workshop creating innovative and interesting furniture from Wattle and other invader species. Range includes chairs, couches, beds, coffee tables, lamps etc. Also beautiful baskets made from wattle bark. Tours on request. Camp site and picnic site on bubbling stream with rock pools and shallow rapids. The Scent Farm See the production of essential oils from herbs (indigenous and exotic) by means of distillation. Visit the herb garden. The Growth Centre Dedicated to Holistic healing. Reiflexology, reike and other therapies. Tranquil venue for group workshops. Trails: Mountain Biking, Horse Riding and 4X4 trails. Trails abound around the haenertsberg village The Elms Aladdin's cave of gifts, curios and clothes Morning Market (Friday and Saturday mornings only). Sells local farm produce, homebake and second hand treasures. Nurseries There are excellent nurseries in the area with both exotic and indigenous plants. Many specialize in azaleas, acres, flowering cherries and crab apples. Filly's Way Mountain Horse Trails. Scenic trails through forests and grassland. 1/2 hour to 2 hours. Picnic trails on request. All trails have an experienced guide. Trout Fishing Is a popular pastime in the area with both Rainbow and Brown Trout being available. Many lodges offer private waters.
