Musina (Messina)  
 


Musina is located in the Limpopo Valley and is the main entry point into South Africa from neighbouring countries. It is a city rich in natural resources, iron, coal, magnetite, graphite, diamonds, copper and asbestos are all mined here. Musina and its surrounding areas are home to many gamefarms and interesting attractions, making it a popular destination for hunters and tourists.

Musina Museum and Library at the Civic Centre
Where one can discover the town’s social and natural history.

Zeederberg's Mail Coach
In front of the Musina Civic Centre, the Zeederberg's Mail Coach can be viewed, it used run between Pretoria and Zimbabwe from the 1890’s.

Matakwe
Is a huge single rock of bulai granite measuring 38 ha in size. It is located on the Musina experimental farm off the R527 to Pontdrift. Visits only by appointment.

Mussina Nature Reserve
The reserve was established to preserve the baobabs of the area, over one hundred specimens of the baobab can be seen. At the Mussina Nature Reserve one can view the worlds oldest datable rock (it is a piece of granite gneiss about 3852 million years old) and various species of bird and game.

Elephant’s Trunk
This very impressive baobab tree was given the name Elephant’s Trunk because of the shape of one of its branches, located in the Erich Mayer Park.

The Bulai / Dongola Execution Rocks
Located 20km west of Musina is the site where the Musina chiefs used to execute their prisoners. Serious offenders were executed at the large rock south of the road, while minor offenders were executed on the side of the road.

The Vhembe-Dongola National Park
Fauna and flora of the Limpopo and Shashe River’s catchment area are preserved at this national park. Here one can view San rock art, or take one of the various walks they have to offer.

Fishing
Fishing is a popular pastime and there are many fine angling spots in the area.

Limpopo Valley National Park
Declared around the historical archeological site of Mapungubwe, and houses the fauna and flora of the Limpopo catchment area.
