Dullstroom

 
 


Dullstroom is a picturesque town renowned for its trout fishing and has the highest railway station in South Africa (2 076m above sea level). Dullstoom was the first irrigation settlement managed by Wolterus Dull who came from Holland. Founded on 9 October 1893, Dullstroom was named after Dull and the “stroom” after the Crocodile River that flows through the district. The elm and beech trees were introduced to the district by the Dutch settlers. Dullstroom was destroyed during the Anglo Boer War and many of the original settlers returned to Holland. Accommodation in the area ranges from camping, self catering houses, up-market lodges and hotels.
