| Lydenburg was founded in 1850 by a group of Hendrick Potgieter’s Voortrekker party and is located between the Drakensburg escarpment and Steenkampsburg. Lydenburg's principal agricultural products beef, dairy, soya beans, fruit, wheat, barley, maize, lucerne, tobacco and wool. A fish hatchery is located on the banks of the Sterkspruit which supplies fish eggs and fingerlings (especially trout) to rivers and dams within the Mpumalanga province. The ‘Lydenburg heads’ were found in the Sterkspruit Valley. Lydenburg has beautiful surroundings and weather which makes it an ideal outdoor adventure paradise.
