Ohrigstad

Ohrigstad, a Voortrekker town was originally located in the Ohrigstad Valley in June 1845 but was abandoned after three devastating malaria infested summers. In 1923 the present-day town was established a few kilometres south west of the original site. Ruins of the original settlement can be seen along the R36 north. Ohrigstad produces citrus fruit, tobacco and wheat mainly under irrigation from the Ohrigstad Dam.
