Bethal

Bethal is a small farming town that produces maize, sunflower seeds, rye, sorghum and potatoes. Bethal's annual potato festival in April attracts thousands of people to the town where antics such as chip-eating and potato-peeling competitions take place. Within the Bethal district there are three gold mines and quite a few large coal mines that provide coal to the Sasol plants at Secunda and Eskoms power stations on the Mpumalanga Highveld.
