| Middleburg, originally known as Nasareth was founded in 1864 by the Voortrekkers on the banks of the Klein Olifants River. In 1872 the name was changed to Middleburg because the town was midway between Pretoria and Lydenburg. It is a large farming and industrial town – Columbus Steel, a large stainless steel plant is situated here. A large concentration camp was built in Middleburg during the second Boer War - Memorial Museum was build next to the graves of the woman and children who died there. |
