| Standerton was established on the farm Grootverlangen in 1876 and named after the owner, Adrian Hendrik Stander. The town is overlooked by Standerskop (1 640metres) which was occupied by the Transvaal force during the Anglo-Transvaal War (1880-1881). Today, Standerton is a large commercial and agricultural town which specializes in cattle, diary and maize farming. The Vaal River flows through Standerton which also makes her a popular fishing destination. South Africa’s main railway links Standerton to the Gauteng and the port of Durban.
