Established in 1918, the town was named after Rev. A.J Olivier (Olivier spelled backwards is Reivilo). The main economic activity of the area is cattle and dairy farming. The town boasts one of the biggest cheese factories in South Africa, with an annual output of 2000 tons of cheese.
