Rustenburg

 
 


Rustenburg means ‘town of rest’, and is a rich agricultural and mining area. The areas main agricultural products are citrus, maize, wheat, sun flower seeds, groundnuts and beef. The mines in the district produce chrome, platinum, lead, tin, slate, marble and granite. Rustenburg is in fact home to the world’s two biggest platinum mines. Its beautiful streets are lined with jacaranda and poinciana trees.

Cocecrated in 1851, was only finally completed after the Anglo Boer War, and was used as a military hospital for the British. Today it has been declared a national monument.
