Swartruggens is a quaint farming town and is named after the black ridges (hills) that surround it. Attractions and Things To Do in Swartruggens African Game and Art It is an Ostrich Farm, offering tours, rides and has a great curio shop. Diamond Mines In 1932 diamonds were discovered just north of the town. Today there are still a few mines and small diamond diggings that are operational. Elands River Battlefield and Graves A battle took place here during the Anglo-Boer War between 1899-1902. Madikwe Game Reserve The Madikwe Game Reserve is home to the Big 5 and is one of South Africas largest game reserves.
