Hanover

In the early 1800’s Hanover was considered part of the Graaff-Reinet district and was known as Bo-Zeekoeirivier. As the farming community grew in area, the need for a new community centre also grew. In 1854 an 8 656ha farm called Petrusvallei, was purchased by the Dutch Reformed church. The former owner asked that the proposed town be named Hanover after the German city his ancestors came from. Hanover is well known for its handmade leather and sheepskin products.
