Norvalspont

 
 


The village is situated below the Gariep Dam on the Orange River, only a 40km drive from Colesburg on the R58. Surrounded by hills and bordering Coleskop, Colesburg boasts spectacular sunsets and has become a traveler’s oasis as it is located on the main Cape Town / Johannesburg route (the N1). The area is known for breeding some of the country’s top Marino’s and race horses.


Attractions and Things to do in Norvalspont

Colesberg Kemper Museum
Located on Murray Street; the Colesburg Kemper Museum was built in 1861, and is home to many articles dating back to the pioneering days.

Doornkloof Nature Reserve
The 9 388ha reserve is located on the southeastern banks of the Vanderkloof Dam and features kudu, steenbok, grey duiker, brown hyaena, mountain reedbuck, bat-eared fox, aardwolf and aardvark. There are hiking trails, horse trails, and an over night hut available. Tel: 051 753 1315.

Hunting
There are various hunting venues in the area, contact the local Tourist Information for more information.

Horse Mill
Bell Street is one of the country’s last working horse mills, it now has been converted into a pub.

Walking Tours
Still in immaculate condition, many of Colesberg’s original buildings are great examples of early Karoo architecture. Walking tour lasting about three hours, can be arranged through the local Information Office. Tel: 051 753 0678.

Oldest Buildings
Coniston House in Ventershoek Street and the Schutz and De Jager Building in Church Street.

Dutch Reformed Church
Located on Church Street, the church was built in 1860. It also features a clock tower which was built in 1925.

Anglican Church
The beautifully decorated church was built in 1854 and designed by Sophia Gray, wife of Bishop Gray.

Trinity Methodist Church
The church was established in 1840, but the building, on Church Street, was only built in 1882.

Anglo Boer War Tour
November 1899 - February 1900, Colesberg was the southern front of the war. A tour of Plateau Camp, Suffolk Hill, Grenadier Guard Rock, Memorial Hill and the military cemetery where more than 400 men from 20 regiments are buried is available.
