Reverend Christian Schröder founded a mission station here in 1875. The town gets its name from a Koranna chief, Klaas Pofadder, who was shot and killed by farmers.
The area is generally very dry and arid but in the spring time Pofadder is home to many beautiful plants and flowers, day walks are available.
