Swellendam is well-known for its youngberries and eclectic architecture. The Drostdy Museum consists of a group of buildings containing a huge selection of period furniture. The Bontebok National Park, about 7 km from Swellendam, provides sanctuary to the threatened bontebok.

Hand-Drawn Pontoon
Located 40km from Swellendam one can find a hand-drawn pontoon over the Breede River Valley at Malgas. It is supposedly the last pont in South Africa. It operates daily during daylight hours.

Suurbraak
The old mission village, dating back to 1812, lies 25km outside Swellendam.

Hermitage Liquor Farm
